Infinite Craft FAQ — Common Questions Answered

Every question players actually search for, answered without filler. Whether you are trying to figure out why your save vanished, how First Discoveries work, or why two elements refuse to combine, the answer is below. If you are completely new, start with the how to play guide instead — it covers the basics this page assumes you already know.

Saving, Exporting, and Resetting
The questions that cause the most panic
❓ Does Infinite Craft save my progress automatically? ▸
Yes. Infinite Craft saves progress automatically in your browser's local storage. You never need to press a save button. Closing the tab, refreshing, or shutting down your computer does not erase your library. The catch: progress is tied to the specific browser you played in. Switching from Chrome to Firefox, or from desktop to mobile, starts you fresh unless you exported your save file first. The game does not have an account system, so there is no cloud sync.
❓ How do I export my save and move it to another browser? ▸
The official mobile app has a built-in export/import feature in its settings menu. It produces a small file containing your entire element library. On the new device, open the same menu and import that file. The browser version does not have this feature natively — players who want to back up browser saves rely on third-party browser extensions. If you are planning to switch devices, the app is the safer option. Back up before clearing browser data — once cache and cookies are gone, there is no recovery.
❓ How do I reset Infinite Craft completely? ▸
Two methods produce the same result. The in-game reset button sits in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Clicking it wipes every discovered element and returns you to the four starting elements. The browser method is clearing cookies and site data for the game's domain. Both erase everything permanently. Neither can be undone. The broom icon — which clears the canvas — does not reset progress; it only tidies the workspace.
❓ Why did my elements disappear when I closed the tab? ▸
Elements on the canvas — the left side of the screen — are temporary. They vanish when you close the session. Elements in your library — the right sidebar — are permanent and saved automatically. If you had a complex chain arranged on the canvas, that arrangement is gone, but every element you discovered is still in your sidebar. The fix is habit: keep your canvas clean. The tips & tricks guide covers this in more detail.

How Combining Actually Works
The rules the game never explains
❓ Does the order of elements matter when combining? ▸
Sometimes. The engine sorts some pairs alphabetically before processing, which means Water + Fire and Fire + Water produce the same result. But not every pair is order-independent. If A + B gives nothing, try B + A before giving up. This is one of the first things experienced players test when a combination fails.
❓ Why do I sometimes get a different result for the same combination? ▸
The game stores every discovered combination in a shared database. Once two elements have been combined by anyone, the result is locked in for everyone. If you get a different result, you either found an undiscovered pair (which is now yours), or the game loaded a cached result from a different context. This is not a bug — it is how the system handles millions of players combining simultaneously.
❓ Is there a character limit for element names? ▸
Yes. Element names longer than 30 characters fail to combine with anything. The game treats them as dead cards. This is a safeguard against infinitely growing names. If you are chaining long descriptive results — like multi-word First Discoveries — watch the length. Once a name passes the limit, it stops being useful.
❓ What is the maximum number of elements I can discover? ▸
There is no practical maximum. The game supports over 100 million possible combinations, and new elements are generated on demand when two previously uncombined elements are paired. The theoretical ceiling is astronomical — far beyond what any single player could reach. Your library grows as long as you keep experimenting.

🔍 What a First Discovery looks like

The glow is subtle. Most players miss it the first time. First Discoveries appear in your sidebar with a faint border and a label that other cards do not have. If you see a card that looks slightly different from the rest, you may have created something nobody else has tried.

🔍
First Discoveries
How to get credit for something new
❓ What exactly counts as a First Discovery? ▸
A First Discovery happens when you combine two elements that have never been combined by any player before. The game marks the result with a glow and a label. You keep credit permanently — it is not stolen if someone else repeats the combination later. Your Discoveries tab collects every First Discovery you have made.
❓ Is it still possible to get a First Discovery? ▸
Yes. The combination space is too large for every pair to have been tried. The trick is to use long-tail elements — names with three or four words. Common elements like Water and Fire have been combined millions of times. A three-word element like Legendary Ratan Samurai has barely been touched. The tips & tricks guide covers First Discovery strategies in full.
❓ Where can I see all my First Discoveries? ▸
The Discoveries tab sits near the search bar. It filters your library to show only elements you discovered first. On mobile, this tab is sometimes hidden behind the same menu. If you cannot find it, check the sorting options in the sidebar — the Discoveries filter is usually grouped with them.
❓ Do First Discoveries unlock anything special? ▸
No gameplay bonuses. A First Discovery does not unlock new branches or improve your elements. It is a recognition badge — proof that you were the first to try a specific combination. For many players, that is the entire appeal. The game does not track a leaderboard or rank.
⚠️
When Things Break
Troubleshooting the most common issues
❓ Why won't my elements combine at all? ▸
Three possibilities. First, the pair produces nothing — some combinations are dead ends by design. Second, one of the elements exceeds the 30-character limit and is a dead card. Third, the game is still loading the result. If the card is flashing, wait a few seconds. If it is static and nothing happens after ten seconds, that pair does not work. Try the reverse order, or try a different pair.
❓ The game is stuck loading. What do I do? ▸
Refresh the page. If the problem continues, clear your browser cache for the game's domain and reload. In rare cases, the game's servers are under heavy load and you may need to wait a few minutes. A persistent loading loop usually means a connection issue rather than a bug in your browser.
❓ I lost my progress. Can I get it back? ▸
Only if you exported your save file before losing it. The game has no account system and no server-side backup. Clearing cookies, using incognito mode, or resetting the game erases everything permanently. This is why the export feature exists — back up your library before experimenting. If you did not export, there is no recovery path.
❓ Why are some elements missing from my search results? ▸
The search bar filters by name, not by category. If you are looking for a specific element, type the first few letters. If it does not appear, you either have not discovered it yet, or the search is case-sensitive in a way you did not expect. Try lowercase. Try the second word instead of the first. The search is fast but literal.
❓ The sidebar is lagging. How do I fix it? ▸
Long libraries slow down rendering. Three fixes: clear the canvas with the broom icon (this does not touch your library), use the search bar instead of scrolling, and close other tabs if your browser is memory-constrained. On mobile, switching to a lighter browser makes a noticeable difference.

Content, Rating, and Suitability
What parents and new players ask first
❓ Is Infinite Craft safe for kids? ▸
Mostly yes, with a caveat. The game has no ads, no accounts, and no chat. There is no way for strangers to contact your child. The caveat is the content: because the game interprets word meaning without filtering, some combinations produce mature references — alcohol, violence, crude humour. The iOS app is rated 13+, the Android app is rated 16+. For younger players, supervised play or a conversation about what to ignore works well.
❓ Is Infinite Craft free? ▸
The browser version is completely free with no monetization. No ads, no premium features, no paywalls. The mobile app is also free to download, though it contains optional in-app purchases that are not required to play. Everything you can discover in the browser version is discoverable in the app.
❓ Can I play Infinite Craft with friends? ▸
There is no built-in multiplayer. However, players have created unofficial ways to compete — bingo boards where each person races to craft specific elements, and browser extensions that add timer-based challenges. For cooperative play, the simplest method is screen-sharing or playing side by side while comparing libraries. The recipes hub works well as a shared reference during these sessions.
❓ Is there an official Infinite Craft app? ▸
Yes. The official app from neal.fun exists for iOS and Android. It includes the full combination system, save files, import/export, and an infinite canvas. The browser version receives updates first, so some features may appear on mobile later. Save data does not sync between browser and app — they are separate ecosystems.
💻
Browser and Mobile
Performance, compatibility, and controls
❓ Does Infinite Craft work on mobile browsers? ▸
Yes. The game runs in any modern mobile browser without an app. Controls are touch-based: tap one element, then tap another to combine. The interface adjusts for smaller screens, and the search bar becomes more important for navigating a large library. Performance depends on your device — older phones may lag with libraries over a few hundred elements.
❓ Why is the game slow on my computer? ▸
The browser is rendering every element card in your sidebar. Libraries with hundreds of elements strain the rendering pipeline. Clear the canvas, use the search bar to filter instead of scrolling, and close unused tabs. If the problem persists, try a browser with fewer background processes.
❓ Can I play Infinite Craft offline? ▸
No. The game requires an active internet connection to function. Even if the page is already loaded, combining elements needs to reach the server to generate or retrieve results. Without a connection, the cards simply will not merge. This applies to both the browser version and the mobile app.
❓ Does Infinite Craft work on school Chromebooks? ▸
Usually yes, unless the domain is blocked. The game runs in any modern browser without downloads or plugins. If your school has blocked the domain, the unblocked guide covers five methods ranked by how often they work. The safest option for school networks is a mobile hotspot — it bypasses the filter entirely.
